RE: NEW BEGIN NAMES
May 10, 1988
One of my comments on the latest version of Begin is that it is
a pity that you can't have more than 9 of any give class of ships in 1.6.
The problem, of course, is a lack of names for the various new ships...
At Tom's suggestion I have compliled a rough list of names (9 or 10 for
each class)for your perusal. Please, feel free to add to or delete from
this list! I'm sure that some of them might strike you as innaccurate
or silly, and someone out there might even have a copy of the old
Star Fleet Technical Manual (which lists, as I recall, all of the
names for various classes of ships)-- so contribute!
Some of the names were fairly easy since the categories were
fairly broad (nasty monsters for Klingon Dreadnoughts, military heroes
or sites for Feds, etc), but some were quite difficult (c.f Romulan
birds). Some (esp. Klingon and Romulan ships) are more onomonopaeic--
like the Acketer and the Vandar-- and I have tried to come up with
suitable names. No two ships in one class can start with the same two
letters. If you spot odd words (Picaro under Orion Anarchists, for
example), they are usually foreign. I have listed 9 for each class
(even though only eight are needed-- one can be tossed automatically).
Oh, and one more idea-- how about giving some ships the names
of Alpha Testers? The USS Flynn? The USS Greenburg? We already have a
Nelson (although that may be refering to a certain naval hero...).
